Montepeloso Eneo Toscana IGT2006 x 6 x 75cl

When it comes to cutting edge Tuscan wine making it doesn’t get much better than Fabio Chiarelotto. A Tuscan native, he returned as Bolgheri in Tuscany where he makes wines at Montepeloso, a 15 acre estate that has taken the wine world by storm over the past two decades. The sunlight hours and diurnal range here help create refined, yet powerful Super Tuscans.

Eneo, Fabios ‘Grand Vin’ is made in small parcels from Sangiovese, Merlot and Colorino. The terroir of lime-clay and silex helps to create an elegant medium body wine. The wines generally spend 18 months in oak and another 18 months ageing in the bottle before they’re released and develop superbly with time.

The 2006 Eneo has a deep ruby hue with subtle signs of ageing at the rim. Fragrant on the nose, notes of blackcurrant and plum blend with wafts of freshly brewed coffee. The blackcurrant and plum follow through intensely on the palate with tannins still firm but silky. What is stunning about this wine is the level of minerality it shows. All in all a must have for any cellar, and at £35 a bottle, just about the best deal currently around.
